Issue date: January 12th 2010 A St Albans secondary school has been recognised as one of the most improved in the country at a reception hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street. Nicholas Breakspear, located on Colney Heath Lane, was among 150 schools praised by the PM and Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, at the event, which took place on Monday January 11th.
The 150 schools from across the country were honoured for securing the biggest and most sustained improvements in the number of pupils achieving more than five GCSEs, including Maths and English, between 2005 and 2008, and Key Stage 2 pupils reaching Level 4+ between 2006 and 2009. Labour Parliamentary candidate Roma Mills, whose youngest son is in Year 12 at the school, said: “It is fantastic that the hard work of both the staff and students has been recognised at the highest level. My daughter also took her GCSEs and A-levels at the school so it has been very satisfying seeing it progress so strongly over recent years.” |
