Labour group leader Cllr Roma Mills has hit out at district and county council leaders for failing to protect Gurney Court Road residents from the threat of a new phone mast on their doorsteps. She believes that the Planning Inspectorate’s decision to give Orange the go ahead for a mast on the junction with Sandpit Lane is the result of years of inaction by local Lib-Dem and Conservative councillors.

LIB DEMS HOSTEL DISGRACE

Roma Mills, Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for St Albans, has slammed the Liberal Democrat Council’s decision to lease the old Ridgeview hostel for the homeless in London Colney to accommodate university students. The hostel has been cleaned and refurbished to house the undergraduates. However, the council originally closed the hostel claiming they needed to sell it in order to help pay for the re-development of Westminster Lodge leisure centre.

Roma said: “I am so angry and depressed that one of our main safety nets for homeless people in this city has been emptied. Ridgeview was not an ideal site but it could have been used to re-provide a smaller purpose-built unit for the homeless. We have so many people in desperate need with nowhere for them to go. I think it’s outrageous that the Lib Dems think that this is a reasonable way to run the Council. It seems that this is just another example of lack of planning by the Lib Dems, ultimately leading to poor decision making.”
