'FCC has had plenty of time to get our local train service back on track', she commented 'its becoming increasingly clear that they are incompetent and just looking to make money out of the travelling public. It will take more than a bunch of managers milling around at St Pancras to restore our faith in this company and I am delighted to hear that Sadiq Khan has confirmed that "All options are on the table." |

Fast improving St Albans secondary school recognised by PM Gordon Brown |

A St Albans secondary school has been recognised as one of the most improved in the country at a reception hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street. Nicholas Breakspear, located on Colney Heath Lane, was among 150 schools praised by the PM and Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, at the event, which took place on Monday January 11th.

20mph campaign gets another boost |

The campaign to introduce more 20mph zones in St Albans got another boost this week with the announcement of new national guidelines that will make them much easier for local councils to implement. The proposals mean that 20mph schemes can be introduced on groups of roads where speeds are already reasonably low without the need for extra traffic calming measures such as humps or chicanes.

Labour group leader Cllr Roma Mills is urging local residents on low incomes not to worry about keeping their heating turned up during the current cold snap. She is highlighting the fact that the big freeze has triggered two more weekly Cold Weather Payments, worth a total of £50 for eligible residents in St Albans and surrounding villages. The payments are made when the average temperature is zero degrees Celcius or below for seven consecutive days.

As St Albans shivers, residents are urged to take advantage of cut-price ‘green’ boiler scheme
With St Albans gripped by snow and freezing temperatures, Labour Parliamentary candidate Roma Mills is urging local residents to take advantage of a new initiative that could save them £400 on the cost of a new, high efficiency boiler. Under the boiler scrappage scheme announced by the Government on Tuesday, January 5th, householders with old ‘G-rated’ boilers can apply for a voucher that will entitle them to £400 off the price of an ‘A’ rated boiler or green heating system such as a biomass boiler or heat pump.
